Sew in the City Workshop 2

Yesterday was our monthly home ed group session over at Sew in the City. This month it was "Sock Creations" so the children were very excited. They each got to select a sock, lots of brightly coloured ones to choose from so it took ages and lots of swopping to get the right one! Next up was making some ears for the bunnies (or sock monsters depending on what you decided to make your sock into). The children turned their sock inside out and drew two triangles on the top bit, then they did a running stitch along the larger triangle. After this was secure they cut along the smaller triangle and turned the sock back to the right way. Next up was to stuff the sock up to the heel. Then they pinned the heel of the sock, which was a little baggy, and fashioned it into a mouth, this was then secured with more running stitch. Then they stuffed all the way to the bottom (or top) of the sock and secured it with another running stitch. Then D (the Owner/teacher) brought out the embellishments much to the children's delight! Lots of oohs and ahhhs over the button baskets! Once eyes were chosen the sewing on of buttons commenced (note to self-remember my glasses next time!). Also ribbons, foam, foam letters were all added. Cordelia made hers an evil bunny named Alice whilst Piper's is nameless!

As per the last session the girls had a brilliant time and came home buzzing. Ruben meanwhile had an amazing time over at his best friend R's house. We did a swop today and brought M to the sewing workshop whilst Bella had Ruben over at her house, M had a brilliant time and wants to come to the next workshop too. Ruben was shattered last night after his fun-filled day where he played Skylanders and made some video's of Skylanders and other toys, they were very funny from what I have heard. Thank you Bella for looking after my boy so well-I hope he didn't eat you out of house and home :-)

  1. Ah the sock monsters! Dave has pride of place in our house and hasn't proved at all evil yet - thankfully! Thanks for taking Mason along, he really enjoyed himself and said everyone was really helpful when he wasn't sure what to do :)

Ruben is welcome any time, they were so absorbed with their film-making and snacking that I hardly knew I had them! Fear the Skylanders thing isn't going away for a while yet though!

    1. Bella it was so funny when Mason wanted to call his bunny DAVE, he took ages trying to find all the foam letters out of the huge pile!

Agree about the Skylanders not going away, in fact Ruben will have some news for R at group on Friday....

    1. Yes Katie, you might well struggle as there are lots of them everywhere! Do you only have zips/velcro on your clothes then or is it just loose buttons you don't like? I suppose from a toddler point of view they are a choking hazard...
